Mammootty will become the only actor to win four National Film Awards for Best Actor. The Malayalam star is being considered for the title for his performance in 'Munnariyippu' in this year's National Film Awards, reports said.
Aamir Khan ('PK') and Shahid Kapoor ('Haider') are also in the race giving a tight competition to Mammotty.
C.K. Raghavan of 'Munnariyippu' was hailed as one of Mammootty's finest performances in his career. Directed by Venu, the film was scripted by R. Unni.
As of now, Mammootty, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan are the three actors who have won the Best Actor award thrice.
In 1990, Mammootty bagged the title for 'Mathilukal' and 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha', in 1994, it was for 'Ponthan Mada' and 'Vidheyan' and in 1999, he took the award home for portraying B. R. Ambedkar on screen in the English film 'Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar'.
When it comes to this year's Best Actress Award, we hear that the contest is between Kangana Ranaut (Queen) and Priyanka Chopra (Mary Kom).
From Malayalam, Anjali Menon's directorial 'Bangalore Days' has been submitted by the regional jury under for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Tamil actor-director Bhagyaraj and Malayalam filmmaker Kamal formed the regional jury.
